Project Profile

Goals of the project

The University of Vermont Alternative Energy Racing Organization is a student run group that works for the advocacy, research, and development of alternative energy drive systems. We model ourselves as a progressive engineering firm with our primary goal to design, build, test, and race a highly competitive vehicle in the annual International Formula-Hybrid competition sponsored by IEEE and SAE. For us, it is an opportunity to demonstrate the efficacy of non-traditional drive-systems for mobility engineering and get to drive fast at the same time! We are committed to finding smart solutions to complex problems. Not only do we push the envelope of green innovation, but we also strive to educate about the issues associated with non-renewable energy sources.

Process

Engineers are a special breed. Charged with improving the function of society, engineers innovate new technologies, percolate new ideas, and sometimes revolutionize the mechanics of how the whole-world works.

With the knowledge an engineer weilds there lies an immense power to fathom and answer the important questions. For instance, how can civilization advance at a continued rate when natural resources are being fast depleted and pollution from current fuel consumption is attributed to global climate change.

You don’t have to see too many time-lapse photos of the ice caps to feel uneasy. This is a reality, but it also must be realized as an opportunity to develop sustainable technologies that improve people’s lives today, and tomorrow
